TRIGGER TIME

Most of the vets are gone now.
Bvb zo zie je McAuliffe "walking the streets of Bastogne." Alsook interviews met Duitse gen. Hasso Von Manteufel.

Definition of a Veteran:
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

FYI. Opkomend initiatief in Belgie.

Dead Man's Ridge Walk - to honor the 17th Airborne Division in the Bulge

Hi all,

I hope everyone in the TT family is fine.

I am very busy organizing the 4th edition of our Dead Man's Ridge Walk, that I just realize that I forgot to talk about it on the forum.

Our next walk will take place on the Sunday 25th of March.

This year, we will walk in the area around Houmont, in the footsteps of the 194th Glider Infantry Regiment, 550th Infantry Airborne Battalion and 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment.

As we did since our first edition, the benefits of the walk will be use to pay the trip to Belgium for a WW2 17th Airborne Veteran (plus one person to come with him). This year, we are honored to welcome John Schumacher. He was in the 81-mm mortar Platoon of the 1st Battalion / 194th Glider Infantry Regiment. He will come with one of his sons. It will be the first time since the war that John is coming back.

And also, we will unveil 2 new markers in Houmont. One will be for the 11th Armored Division who liberated the village on 30th December 1944 and one for the 17th Airborne Division who fought there from January 3 to 13, 1945.
We are also working on an historical panel that will come a later stage (after the renovation of the village's square).

All the information on our blog :

http://17thairbornewalk.blogspot.com/

The registration will be in the village house of Houmont, near the church. It will be open from 0800. At 0900 will be the unveiling ceremony for the markers and the walk will start after the ceremony.
There are 2 distances : 7 and 17 km.

Anyone is welcome and we heartly thank every participant. It is thanks to you that John can come back where he fought so long time ago.
For information, John is the 3rd Veteran able to come back thanks to the participants of the walks. In 2010, we had Curtis Gadd (D/513th PIR) and in 2011, we had Robert Patterson (E/513th PIR).

All the best,

Laurent

PS: and yes, our group is still doing 2/501st PIR (but not at this walk of course)

Good luck ever seeing this aired on the Mainstream media. If a Koran gets burned they are all over that though. The networks won't touch this with a 20 foot pole.
